Tegan & Sara's Heartthrob Out Today

Tegan & Sara's new album Heartthrob is out today.

Admittedly, what's been made public thus far is a poppier effort than their previous work, but if they're into more synths and programmed beats than guitars these days I won't be the one to say it's wrong.

It's been an interesting evolution to be sure. The indie darlings have paid their dues and making music that's a bit more accessible to the mainstream is fine. Hopefully it pays off, but even if it doesn't they still seem to be happy with what they're doing.

Below are two songs they performed acoustically for a Billboard session.

The first is the lead single from Heartthrob, the infectious "Closer" and the second is the Cyndi Lauper hit "Time After Time".

I'll be the first to admit I never really cared that much for Cyndi Lauper, but this version of "Time After Time" proves it's actually a legitimately good song once it's stripped of it's studio sheen and 80s pop aesthetic.

So check these performances out and enjoy Tegan & Sara's new album.

EDIT: For whatever reason, Billboard has made it damn near impossible to properly post the embed code for these videos. No matter how I do it, there's a duplicate of one video or another and logging in with my blogger account hasn't helped. Here's the original story on their website.

Tegan And Sara Return With Heartthrob

Canadian sisters Tegan and Sara Quin are back with the release of Heartthrob January 29.

In advance of the new release, Tegan and Sara have put out the first single "Closer" accompanied by the cool video below.

"Closer" is incredibly infectious in the best of ways. Give it a listen and enjoy the visuals of a ramped-up teenage bash complete with trampolines, balloons and karaoke.

Band Of The Day: Tegan & Sara

I finally decided that since our song's of the day more often than not end up featuring multiple songs, it should become more of a profile of bands. Of course, this time I'm only posting one song so it's a work in progress.

Last night I became enamored as many have with Tegan & Sara, indie rock sisters from Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

I downloaded and listened to an early leak of their new album Sainthood and I'm hooked. Not having heard any of their other stuff, I'm not yet sure how it relates to the girl's older material but I'll be sure to look into it.

The girls are pictured above with Chris Walla of Death Cab For Cutie, who along with Howard Redekopp produced the album.

I admittedly have a soft spot for female vocalists as you'll see with the next female-fronted band I'll spotlight soon.

There's some really cool instrumentation going on with the Quin sisters though in addition to their lovely vocals.

The song featured here is their new single, "Hell". It's extremely catchy and driven by a tasty little synth riff and nice guitars. Very catchy hook too albeit with a slightly unorthodox delivery which I particularly like.
