Zabian Dowdell Signs With Phoenix Suns

I know it's "Super" Sunday, but this bit of news made me extremely happy.

Former Virginia Tech guard Zabian Dowdell has been signed by the Phoenix Suns for the remainder of the season.

Dowdell had signed two 10-day contracts with the Suns, scoring 16 points with nine assists and five steals in five games.

Per NBA rules, the Suns then had to either sign Dowdell for the rest of the year or let him go to another team. They chose the former.

Dowdell (listed as #22) is the first Hokie on an NBA roster in quite some time. He's played on multiple NBA Summer League rosters as well as teams overseas and in the NBDL.

Best of luck to Zabian and have an excellent Super Bowl Sunday.

Luke Harangody Moves to Next Level

Congratulations to Luke Harangody, former Big East player of the year and standout All-American basketball player at Notre Dame. Luke was drafted with the 52nd pick in the 2010 NBA Draft by returning Eastern Conference champions the Boston Celtics.

While Luke was not pegged by pundits as a sure thing NBA star he will provide quality depth, athleticism, and shooting range to a Celtics club desperate to defy old age and its crippling effects on a professional basketball team.

We wish Luke nothing but the best of luck in the next stage of his career.
